San Diego, part 2

More on the happenings in San Diego.

There is very little to tell in terms of boat stuff. Mostly, we spent the last few days before the Ha-ha running around doing errands and completing last minute projects. Steven was still doing things as it got dark the evening before the start of the rally!

We had a great visit with Grandpa Norman and his girlfriend. They were gracious enough to rent a car and let us borrow it. They also had a fun time taking the kids to the San Diego Zoo, while Roma and Steven had a chance to catch up on more work.

We needed to go to the Mexican Consulate to get our visas, and then to the fishing license office (Con Pescadora) to get our Meixcan fishing licenses. While at the fishing license place, our parking meter ran over by 9 minutes, and we got a $30 parking ticket! We definitely do not like San Diego's parking nazis!

The visas were free (until you get to Mexico) but the fishing licenses cost a bundle (US$301). Everyone was again really nice and we didn't have any problems accomplishing our tasks.

A couple of days before the start, there was a kickoff costume party. The kids got dressed up, we had good food and good times.

The kids participated in the costume contest. Everyone won, and they got prizes of a flashlight and some candy.

The very last thing to do before leaving was to top off the fuel tanks. The morning of Oct. 25 we pulled into the fuel dock at Shelter Island at 1150 (the rally started at 1100!). So we were late off the start by 1.5 hours.
