Sail to Zeballos

We had a nice short sail from Queen Cove to Zeballos.

We got up and out late: 1150. However, we knew we only had 15 miles to go, so we weren't worried about time. As we headed up the inlet, the wind came up directly behind us, so what were we to do? We cut the engine, and sailed up wing-on-wing!

While we were sailing, both Leif and Gage showed an unusual interest in driving the boat!

Leif got totally into helping Steven gybe the boat as we made our way directly downwind up the inlet. We were sailing under main alone for simplicity sake, and Leif would loosen the preventer, and reconfigure it on the other side after each gybe.

The weather was so nice, we even had time for a game of chess on the afterdeck as we were sailing.

At Zeballos, we waited our turn to go into the fuel dock, got fuel, and then went over to the public dock to moor for the next couple of days while we explored.

We spent the next day in Zeballos exploring, hiking, and doing laundry. We paid heed to the notice of hazard to small vessels of the Orca named Luna in the next inlet down the coast: apparently this whale likes the inlet, and likes company: it is now in the habit of tearing the rudders off of sailboats to disable them so that they stay and play longer. The Indians believe that the whale is the reincarnation of a recently departed Chief.
