La Cruz

Getting ready for Christmas in La Cruz.

Today we saw a huge tuna (had to be at least 40 pounds) just swimming around the boat that made Gage think twice about going swimming. The water isn't too clean right next to shore anyway.

La Cruz is a nice little town. It is typical Mexico - more typical than La Paz and Cabo - in terms of its level of civilization. This is definitely a third world country. There are cobblestone streets, lots of dirt, and strange things like a dead iguana rotting on the sidewalk and a huge dead rat on the beach. The little harbor is home to many fishing pangas, and it is a bit dirty as well.

The people, however, continue to be friendly and wonderful. Our Spanish is not improving at the rate we would like, but that doesn't seem to get in our way too much.

Roma took the bus into Puerto Vallarta today to hit Wal-mart and do some last minute Christmas shopping. She had an adventure. The bus apparently didn't have very good shocks, and she swears she is still bouncing from the ride. She also missed the stop coming back and had to catch another bus to go back a couple of miles!

The boys and I did double math and science today in preparation for the two days off for Christmas, then played a bit on the computer. They found the voice-activated chess program on the Macintosh that is really cool. The boys are definitely ready for Christmas!
