Sula Leaving

Day before yesterday we sailed back from Murielagos to Playa Panama. We waited for the wind to start, and then spent about an hour trying to get the half mile out from around the point into the Gulf of Papagayo. Once it became clear that we were sailing backwards because the current was pushing us back harder than the wind was pushing us forward, we started the motor. We only had to run it for 20 minutes to get out into the gulf where there was a slight breeze.

The wind built nicely so that we made a good 3.5 - 4 knots most of the afternoon. We had a great sail all the way to Bahia de Culebra, but since it was getting dark we started the engine and motored the last 30 minutes into the anchorage.

Yesterday was beautiful. We played in the water, hoped for some rain but didn't really get it, although we had beautiful light shows from clouds to the north and south of us. We went into the restaurant and had lunch.

Sula will be heading out tomorrow for getting on down to Golfito. The boys slept over on Sula last night, and they've been there all day too. It's their last day together.

This morning another boat, Unity, called and said let's go diving. The visibility yesterday was 60 feet, and so Roma, Melissa, and I packed up the dive gear and took the 3 mile trip out to "King Kong Rock" for the dive. It was a nice dive. We saw lots of fish, eels, and spotted eagle rays. We had 40 feet of visibility, which is the best we've ever had from our boat.

The guy from Unity, Jeremy, free dives and can stay down for 3 - 3.5 minutes a pop. I want to learn how to do that and get rid of the scuba stuff: it's just a pain with all that equipment. As we descended on our dive, he was laying on the bottom in 45 - 50 feet of water.

Later we are headed to the restaurant for a good-bye dinner for Sula. They will be leaving tomorrow around mid-day. We'll miss them!
