This is in the outdoor market in Chinandega, Nicarauga. They still use lots of horse drawn carts around town. The bike-cart on the right is the local taxi.

Lots of the homes in the country have thatched roofs all the way to the ground like the one in the background.

These children just got off the school bus and are heading home.

The countryside is quite beautiful - lush and green.

To get from the marina to town, we have to take a van. It's almost an hour away over very bumpy, dirt roads.
DSC04118.JPG
I (Roma) just liked this shot taken out of the van window.

There is always a cow or two to be seen from the road.

A view into a home. I think that is a US flag inside.

Part of the Marina property on the way back from town. There is a nice view of the beach.

In the distance is the building of a woman who runs a small mission that helps the local people.

Turkeys! There are a lot more farm animals here in Nicarauga than we have seen in other places.

Clotheslines abound. Even if a house is made of adobe with a dirt yard, they always have extra bright whites hanging on the line.

Another home with a thatched roof.

This is a pithaya. In English it is called a dragon fruit. It is a cactus flower and is considered a delicacy.
DSC04157.JPG
This is what it looks like on the inside. It tastes a little like a kiwi.

This is an approaching thunderstorm. This particular one didn't bring much rain, but we usually get one going through every night around 2:00 am.
