Barkley Sound

DSC01752.JPG
This is a sunfish we passed. We circled him three times to verify that is what it was.
DSC01754.JPG
The bald eagles almost outnumber the seagulls here. There was a family living on this tiny island that we moored off of in Ucluet. The eagle is in the treetop.

I think these stickers on the high voltage boxes are funny.
DSC01343.JPG
We hiked about 6 miles on a trail around the small peninsula in Ucluet. This is looking west over a rocky cove.
DSC01344.JPG
There was another small boardwalk section on this hike.

Leif walking - Gage is up ahead.
DSC01346.JPG
Taking a brief rest on the long hike.

This is called Painted Starfish.

Trinity on the mooring ball in Ucluet. The little island with the eagle family is right behind us.
DSC01758.JPG
This is a perfect little beach on the east side of Effingham Island. We hiked an old indian trail to get to it.
DSC01759.JPG
This is all that is left of an old Indian Great House that is just off the beach.
DSC01760.JPG
These are some of the things left/found from the beach.
DSC01761.JPG
Moss on the end of one of the old logs from the great house.
DSC01762.JPG
This may not be the original fire pit, but looks to be in a spot where it might have been in the center of the house area.
DSC01763.JPG
The boys were happy to finally have found a sandy beach. Most of the beaches are very rocky.
DSC01764.JPG
This beach is sandy because it is the old midden of the village and is made up mostly of broken shellfish.
DSC01766.JPG
A view into Barkley Sound from the beach.
DSC01769.JPG
I left an offering on the table of some dried shells and crabs.
DSC01771.JPG
This is a really big scallop or clam shell, I'm not sure which.
DSC01772.JPG
Oops! I think the tide went out. It's a good thing we can pick this up!
